Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rocks Mind Map

Hello everybody!
Here you have the Rocks mind map we are working in the class with.

Below, you will find different images of the three types of rocks we are studying, and some explanations related to them.

IGNEOUS O MAGMATIC ROCKS

These rocks are formed by the solidification of magma. Depending where the magma cools down, we can classify them in:

. VOLCANIC ROCKS:
They are igneous rocks formed when the magma cools down outside the crust.

Here you have two examples very different in texture and weight. Do you remember????

Basalt

 Pumice

. PLUTONIC ROCKS:
They are igneous rocks  formed when the magma cools down inside the crust. This way, the magma cools down slower, so there is enough time for different minerals to crystalize.

Here you have one example of a rock made up by three different kinds of minerals. Do you remember????

Granite

SEDIMENTARY ROCKS

These rocks are formed by the accumulation and compaction of sediments.

Depending of the origin of the sediments we can find different types of sedimentary rocks:

. Sediments originated from fragments of other rocks

Conglomarate

. Sediments originated from living organisms

Coal

. Sediments originated from the evaporation and precipitation of substances

Limestone

METAMORPHIC ROCKS

These rocks are formed by the transformation by high temperature and pressure. Some times the high pressure creates layers in the rocks, like in this example:

Gneiss

In other cases the high temperature and high pressure create new crystilized structures, like in this case:

Marble
